Nutrition Assistance Programs
SNAP Eligibility
Find help for Supplementary Nutrition Assistance Program

The 3 levels of food assistance for those who are food insecure are:
Federal: SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program)
SNAP benefits are funded by the Federal Farm Bill, which is in charge of food access, rural economic resiliency, and food security across the country. In New York City, 560,000 children rely on SNAP, as do 530,000 older adults. By alleviating some of the cost of groceries, SNAP helps low-income families allocate more money to rent and healthcare.

SNAP also helps local supermarkets and bodegas, especially in low-income neighborhoods, by bringing in customers to spend their benefits at the grocery store.
To apply, go to ACCESS HRA at https://a069-access.nyc.gov/accesshra/.
You will also need the documents listed at /https://www.nyc.gov/assets/hra/downloads/pdf/services/snap/eligibility_factors_and_suggested_documentation_guide.pdf.
The documents can be be dropped off at SNAP Centers (https://www.nyc.gov/site/hra/locations/snap-locations.page ) or at Community-Based Organizations (CBOs) locations (https://www.nyc.gov/assets/hra/downloads/pdf/services/snap/FIA-1138_E.pdf ).
Once approved, you will receive an EBT card that you can use at any store that accepts SNAP. SNAP benefits can only be spent on food.
State: Farmers Market Nutrition Program (FMNP)
FMNP is a federally funded, state administered program that enables WIC recipients and older adults ages 60 and older to purchase fresh fruits and vegetables at their local farmers market. The program provides checks to WIC (Women, Infants, Children) participants and to older adults. The program runs from June 1 to November 30. Checks are issued by WIC. Senior checks are distributed to community centers through the NYC Department for the Aging. FMNP checks can only be spent on fruits and vegetables at farmers markets.
City: Health Bucks
SNAP recipients can get incentive Health Bucks when they spend their SNAP EBT at the farmers market. The program matches $2 for $2 up to $10 a day. Community Health Bucks are given to community based organizations (CBOs) and are generally given out at special events.
Health Bucks can only be spent on fruits and vegetables at farmers markets.
